Turbocharger
A supercharging device driven by exhaust gases from the engine.
The turbocharger forces compressed air into the cylinder to increase the amount of oxygen available to mix with the fuel. This results in a more efficient and powerful burn, and hence more economy and power. Whilst standard superchargers are powered mechanically, a turbocharger (or more correctly, a turbo-supercharger) is driven by the engine's exhaust gases.
