Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC)
Also known as Single Overhead Cam.
A single overhead camshaft engine uses one camshaft placed within each cylinder head to operate both the exhaust valves and the intake valves. In an inline engine, this means there is one camshaft in the head, whilst in a V engine there are two camshafts: one per cylinder bank.
