Cylinder

The hollow tubular cavities in the cylinder block in which the pistons travel and in which combustion takes place. As each piston moves down, it draws in fuel and air, and then compresses these gases as it moves up again. The gases are ignited by a spark from the spark plug and a contained explosion forces the piston down again. As the piston rises again, the burnt gases are expelled from the cylinder and the cycle is repeated.
