Cut and Shut
The illegal practice of welding together two cars, usually both write-offs. The front end of one is welded to the back end of another, creating a car that may look roadworthy, but could be lethal in a crash and worthless when it comes to resale. Buyers should look out for uneven gaps between panels and around the doors, along with weld marks in the floor. They should also check that the chassis and engine numbers match those on the vehicle registration certificate (V5C) and MOT certificate.
