Franchised Dealers

Franchised dealers are appointed by the manufacturer they represent. Although in general they tend to charge the highest prices, they usually also offer the highest level of customer service and expertise, along with ease of servicing. There is often plenty of room for negotiation over the advertised prices.

Advantages

  • There is a wide choice of cars to look at and test-drive
  • Usually good customer service, with a high level of expertise to answer questions
  • You can order the exact specification you want
  • Best comeback if things go wrong
  • It is easy to part-exchange your old car

Disadvantages

  • Prices offered for part-exchange vehicles usually fall well below those that can be obtained by selling privately
  • Expensive; however, discounts may be had if you're willing to haggle
